WEMA DART deployed to Macon County, TN (Lafayette) on February 6, 2008 and returned again on February 7th and 9th per request of the Macon County EMA & the TN State Dept. of Agriculture.
On February 6, 2008, WEMA DART rescued 25 goats, 12 dogs, 4 horses, one mule, one pony, two rabbits, and two chickens. All injured animals were taken to Wilson (small animal) and Sumner County (equines) for veterinary care. As of 12FEB08 the owners of all animals have been located and have either collected their animals or are in touch with the foster families of their animals. One goat died enroute to veterinary care from injuries sustained during the tornado and one goat had to be euthanized by a veterinarian also due to the severity of injuries sustained during the tornado.
